Very difficult scene to get the colour balance right this one, although I’ve been supplied with a white balance it doesn’t really help as the room is lit with a mix of natural & artificial light, you’ll see that the white shifts from blue on the right to orange on the left across the single frame. Seeing four or five completely different whites in the same frame (the wall closest to camera, the background wall, the picture border and the kitchen cupboards) can be disorientating when colour correcting.
The second room they enter is filled with artificial light only so I tried to transition when they walk through at 8mins, otherwise you would see the shot start either very, very blue or end very, very yellow. It’s not as problematic as when there is bright moving sunlight pouring in but still tricky. Some of the first section was shot from behind a closed glass door, I’m not sure why, maybe our side of the door was the kitchen and the crew were taking advantage of all the catering while the talent was busy.
I’ve cut down what I could of this as I can’t honestly imagine anyone enjoying watching it, but if you are worried that you might be missing out on something then you can recreate the effect by leaving the room and watching this scene from your hallway.
